Robert Lloyd Schley, 74, a life long resident of Idaho Falls, passed away Sunday, July 31, 2011 from heart complications.

Bob was born February 14, 1937, in Ririe, Idaho, to Ira Wayne Schley and Laura Belle Heaton Schley. He was the third of four children. He began his education at Riverside Elementary School, O.E. Bell Jr. High, and graduated from Idaho Falls High School in 1955. Bob was an excellent athlete and attended Utah State University on a basketball scholarship, graduating with a business degree in 1959. He was always a hard worker and prided himself in finding a bargain and saving money.

On January 29, 1959, he married Carol Janet Martin in the Logan LDS Temple. They spent three years in Germany while Bob was enlisted in the United States Army. He served in the 3rd armored division as 1st lieutenant. They moved back to Idaho Falls in 1963. He was a very successful salesman, first at Hart Car Dealership and then for Wells Distributing, providing Zenith products. He won numerous top sales and achievement awards.

After moving back to Idaho Falls, he became involved in refereeing local high school football and basketball games. He and his brother-in-law, Bob Martin, had many thrilling experiences in the heat of reffing sporting events. He made life long friends and always had exciting stories to tell after "making a bad call."

Bob had a dynamic personality with great instincts and was successful in his endeavors. He loved the outdoors: hunting, fishing, and particularly his "nooner" golf buddies. He cherished time spent with family and friends and took great pride in the cabin that he built. Many great memories where created with family and friends in Island Park.

The family is so appreciative of the heroic efforts of his golf partners at the time of his incident. He was blessed with wonderful friends throughout his life.

Bob is survived by his wife Carol of Idaho Falls, their children: Sue (Barry) Landon of Idaho Falls, ID; Robert (Holly) Schley of Grant, ID; Kevin (Anita) Schley of Salt Lake City, UT; Greg (Debbie) Schley of Boise, ID; Sandra Jo Schley of Caldwell, ID; Mary (Troy) Killpack of Idaho Falls, ID; Jake (Brittany) Schley of Pocatello, ID; 27 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren; siblings, Joan Moon of Las Vegas, NV; Max Schley of Idaho Falls, ID; and Betty (Vic) Erickson of Idaho Falls, ID.

He is preceded in death by his parents, his brother-in-law, Bob Martin, his and great-granddaughter, Zoey Simmons.

Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 5, 2011 at the Idaho Falls LDS Sage Creek Ward (3370 North 500 West) with Bishop Kelly Mallard officiating. Burial will be in Ririe-Shelton Cemetery under the direction of Wood Funeral Home.
