Tennessee, USA
Death: May 30, 1956
New York County (Manhattan), USA

Jazz Musician, Singer, Actress, and Entertainer. Billed as “Queen of the Trumpet,” she appeared in some of the top theatrical productions of her day on Broadway in New York. The toast of Paris and London in the early 1930s, she wrote and recorded her theme song, “High Hat, Trumpet and Rhythm.” Her flamboyant personal style featured elegant gowns and an orchid-colored Mercedes limousine. She outfitted her chauffeur and pet monkey in orchid-colored livery, and was feted by royalty. Queen Wilhelmina of the Netherlands awarded her a solid gold trumpet. As an actress, she appeared in "Take It from Me" (1937), "Irresistible You," "L'Alibi," and "Pieges" (1939) along with her husband Ananais Berry. She made her last performance at the Palace Theater in New York in 1956 and died that year on May 30th of a cerebral hemorrhage. (bio by: Octagon)
