The Rowley town records state that his birth is the eleventh day of the twelfth month. March was considered the first month of the year.
Joseph married Elizabeth West, daughter of Twiford West and Mary Cross West of Ipswich. They were married Feb. 21, 1671/72. Five children were born to this union; Joseph, John, Jonathan, Jeremiah, and Elizabeth.
His will proved, May 7, 1705 in the Essex Co. Probate Files.
There isn't a record of Joseph's interment in the Rowley Cemetery. It was the only parish cemetery at the time of his death. According to the Rowley Town Clerk, it is likely he is here, since, early memorials were made of wood. When these deteriorated, if family members were still in the area, they sometimes replaced them with a stone memorial. His burial date is listed Chaplin, Joseph, Corporal, April 17, 1705, in the Vital Records for Rowley.
