75th Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of Saint John of Jerusalem 1966-1976. From 1966 until 1976, under the royal protection of King Peter II of Yugoslavia, he was Grand Master of the Sovereign Order of St. John of Jerusalem, Knights of Malta, and as an Emeritus remained a member of the Supreme Council. Formerly he had been Grand Prior of the U.S. Sovereign Military Order of the Temple of Jerusalem, and held the Grand Cross from the autonomous Priory of Switzerland and from the Regent in Operto, Portugal.

He was educated at the University of North Carolina, and was with Signal Intelligence in the India-Burma theatre of World War II. His actively pursued memberships are too numerous to comprehensively list, but include: Knight Commander of the Royal Order of St. Sava; Fellow of the French Croix de Guerre (American Asscn.); treasurer general, Society of War of 1812; secretary general, The Jersey Blues; vice-president, New Jersey Society of Sons of the American Revolution; secretary, Maryland Society of New York; council member, Descendants of Lords of Maryland Manors; and a member of the Society of Colonial Wars, Society of the Ark and Dove, Newcomen Society in North America, Maryland Historical Society, among numerous others.
