AUGUST BERNARD ANDREW RAELSON
March 24, 1923 to August 9, 2009
August was born to Swedish immigrants, John and Sevia Raelson in Springfield, Missouri.
He was a World War II veteran that proudly served his country as a Marine. August was stationed in the Philippines during the Japanese invasion of the islands. August was a Valparaiso University alumnus who studied structural engineering. He worked the majority of his career in Chicago, Illinois with the Sergeant and Lundy Engineering Firm designing fossil fuel power plants. August resided in Valparaiso, Indiana the majority of his life but retired in Port Charlotte, Florida for the last 7 years.
August went to be with the Lord, peacefully, with his wife, Carolyn by his side. He and Carolyn were married 30 years.
Preceding him in death are his first wife, Harriet of 27 years; his parents, John and Sevia; brothers, Arthur and Verner; and his sister, Emma.
Surviving include his wife, Carolyn; children, step-children, grandchildren, step-grandchildren, great-grandchildren and step-great-grandchildren. Their names are as follows, children, Dr. Ronald August Raelson, Dr. Rebecca Skonicki, Roberta Raelson, Rorie Horsley and Roger Raelson; step-children, Nancy Ball, Janice Shaw and Tom Rosene; grandchildren, Noelle Raelson, Kristel Kuwabara, Andrew Raelson, David Vollmer, Karly and Emily Horsley; step-grandchildren, Kristin, Andrew, Kevin (deceased), Jamie, Jason and Rachael, Ryan Raelson; great-grandchildren, Nathan, Quinton, Jacob, Zelie and Gracelyn; step-great-grandchidlren, Logan and Hailey.
Funeral Services will be at Bartholomew Funeral Home in Valparaiso, Indiana on Friday, August 14 at 10:00 AM. Visitation is from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, August 13 at the funeral home.
