| Birth: | Dec. 17, 1837 | | Death: | Nov. 9, 1898 Selma Fresno County California, USA |  Western Frontiersman. A prominent pioneer of California, he was the founder of Fresno and Tulare Counties. He discovered the Tehipite Valley in the Sierra Nevada Mountains, and named Tunemah Peak and Kettle Dome. The Dusy Basin and two waterways are named for him. He was a prominent sheep rancher in Selma and helped found the Fresno "Weekly Republican" Newspaper. He enlisted in the Union Army during the Civil War, and served in Company H of the 3rd California Volunteer Infantry. He helped bring irrigation to these areas. (bio by: Maureen Trinley)
