He was educated at Harrow and served with the 1st Rifle Brigade in Turkey and throughout the Indian Mutiny. He was present at Lucknow. A Major by 1870, he took part in the suppression of the Fenian Raid in Canada. He retired from the Army as a Lieutenant Colonel and died at home in Cranbrook, Kent on the 19th August 1917.
