7/9/1953- Tuttle Times:
The last rites were held for Barney L. Bowman, 67, Sunday afternoon, July 5, at the Methodist church with John H. Lomax, of Shattuck, officiating. Mr Bowman died July 3 in the Wesley hospital in Oklahoma City. He had been in failing health the last 6 years. He came to Tuttle in 1902 and had lived in the Tuttle community since then. He had been a member of the Tuttle Methodist church for 50 years. He had been a butcher, a farmer, and since retiring from farming, was in business with his daughter, Mrs Reed, at the Bowman variety store. Music was provided by Mr & Mrs Knox Bowser, R.B. Stevens, Mrs Nellie Culp, Mr & Mrs Irvin Githens, miss Dana Sifford, & Mrs Eldon Gambill. Active pallbearers were nephews, Elmo Henderson, Cecil Kettler, L.L. Malcum, Woodrow West, Luster Kettler, & R.E. Malcum. Honorary pallbearers were, V.T. Gannaway, T.R. Caldwell, Stevie Chenoweth, Russell Hambleton, Joe Hartin, Fred Baumann, Eldon Gambill, Wallace Cramer, A.E. Hennings, & Howard Rich. Survivors are his wife, Lulu of Tuttle, 2 daughters, Mrs Margaret Reed of Tuttle, & Mrs Phil Bailey of Oklahoma City, 2 sons, Clyde of Tuttle & Frank of Oklahoma City, 6 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 3 brothers, Lynn of Tuttle, Harl of California, & Oscar of Oklahoma City. Burial was at Fairlawn cemetery under direction of Sowers funeral home.
