Maxine J. Wilshusen Engel, 95 years, of Millard, NE died Sunday, July 24, 2011 at Good Samaritan Society – Millard.
She was born November 6, 1915 in Hampton, Nebraska to Harry and Vera (Harrington) Henderson. She grew up in the Polk and Hordville, NE areas. She married Ralph H. Wilshusen July 8, 1935 in Kearney, NE. After her marriage the couple lived in California and then returned to Nebraska where they farmed at North Bend. She also worked for many years at the Campbells Soup Company in Fremont. Maxine retired in 1975 and moved to Fremont. Ralph died April 13, 1976. In November of 1976 Maxine married Al Engel and they lived on a farm south of Fremont and then lived in Florida for 13 years before moving to Omaha, Nebraska in 1993. Al died October 27, 2000 and Maxine has remained in the Omaha area.
Maxine was a member of Pacific Hills Lutheran Church at Omaha.
Survivors include: sons – Tom and wife Janice Wilshusen of Fremont, NE, Doug and wife Jean Wilshusen of Omaha, NE, and Randy & wife, Donna Wilshusen of Omaha, NE; daughters – Nona and husband Marshall Gibbs of Frankenmuth, MI and Donna and husband Dennis Flood of Omaha, NE; step-son – Jack and wife Joanne Engel of Fremont, NE and step-daughter – Beth Kindler of Fremont, NE; sister Nadine and husband Bill Giacone of Temecula, CA; 14 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; 5 step-grandchildren; and 11 step-great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents; 2 husbands; and 2 brothers, Rex & Tom Henderson.
Memorial service will be 10:00 A.M., Monday, August 1, 2011 at Moser Memorial Chapel in Fremont. The Rev. Matthew Schneider will officiate. There is no visitation. Burial will be at Memorial Cemetery, Fremont.
