He was the son of the late John and Ann McDaniel of Talbot County, Maryland. He was married November 21, 1895 to Miss Ada Smith, daughter of John Smith, Wakefield, Carroll County, one of the founders and original trustees of Western Maryland. He died at the home of his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Ober S. Herr, Westmoreland Street, Westminster. Besides his wife and daughter, he is survived by two grandsons, Samuel Ober Herr, Jr. and William McDaniel Herr.
