The death of Benjamin F. Austin.
formerly one of Coopertown's leading
business men, occurred at his home at
Woodlawn, Thursday evening. March 20th. Although he had suffered with the grip
for about two week no serious
results had been expected and death was
a sudden surprise to all.
Mr. Austin was born in Winfield
spent several years in Ohio and while
there married Stella C Rawdon. About
twenty-five years ago they came to Cooperstown, and for about ten years
Mr. Austin was associated with the late
Richard E. Bolton and M. H. Bronnor,
in the coal and feed business under the
firm name of Austin, Bolton & Bronner.
Fifteen years ago. Mr., and Mrs.
Austin removed to New York to make
their home with their only daughter,
Fannie, who is the wife of Dr. David
F. Kelley. He was a n active member of
the Baptist church and lived a consistent
Christian life, earning for himself dur
ing his residence in Cooperstown the
honor and respect of the entire com-
munity.
Surviving are his widow, who herself
is very seriously ill, the daughter men-
tioned above and four grandchildren,
Estelle, Ruth, Mary and Wilfred Kelley,
the latter but three weeks old. He also
is survived by two brothers, Samuel
Austin of East Orange, N. J., and Martin Austin of Fairport, N. Y.
The body was brought to Cooperstown
Saturday and the funeral was held at
the home of Mrs. James Austin on
Chestnut street, Sunday afternoon, the
Rev, Frank S. Squyer officiating: Interment
in Lakewood cemetery.
