Industrialist, US Congressman. He was one of the founders of the city of Lowell, Massachusetts, and one of the fathers of the American Industrial Revolution. He was elected as a National Republican and as a Whig to represent Massachusetts' 1st Congressional District in the United States House of Representatives, serving from 1831 to 1833, and from June to September, 1842.
