Peter was born in 1825, in Montgomery Co., Ohio, son of parents born in Penn. He died April 21, 1895, at his home in Bloomer, aged about 57 years and was buried there in the nearby Twin Lakes Cemetery. Shortly before his death, he had been a resident of the Soldier's Home, but got a little better and returned to his home in Bloomer where he died. His gravestone is inscribed "Peter Bainter Co. H. 17th Wis. Inf." On May 16, 1850, Peter was united in marriage to Martha J. Cochran, in Brooklyn Twp., Sauk Co., Wis. Martha was born in 1832, in Indiana, daughter of John Cochran, born in Conn. She died Nov. 10, 1918, place death and burial unknown. Their known children, all born in Wis., were: David L., b. 1860; Marion, b. 1862; a son, b. 1867; Benjamin, b. 1870; John, b. 1873; & Joseph, b. 1878
