| Birth: | Feb. 4, 1888 | | Death: | Aug. 28, 1942 |  Major League Baseball Player. Born in Bedford, Indiana, he was a catcher making his debut on August 12, 1909, with the Boston Rustlers. For twelve seasons, he with the Boston Rustlers (1909-10), Boston Braves (1911-13), Indianapolis Hoosiers in 1914, Newark Pepper in 1915, New York Giants (1916-18) and Cincinnati Reds (1919-20). Noted as one of the best catchers of era, he led the league in catchers twice in putouts, assists and base runners caught stealing. In 1919 he was also a member of the Cincinnati Reds team which won the World Series over the scandal plagued Chicago White Sox. He concluded his career with a record of a .972 fielding percentage, 682 hits, 7 homeruns, 272 runs batted in and a .237 batting average. He died at age 54 Bedford, Indiana.
