Memorialized by the monument to the Confederate dead in Hollywood Cemetery, Jackson Thomas died of disease at Winder Hospital. He served as a private in Company A, 50th Georgia Infantry. His military records are under the name of Jackson Thomas to differentiate him from his brother Lewis.

Pvt. Thomas enlisted with his brother, Edmund, in March 1862 at Blackshear, Georgia. The group they joined was made up of their neighbors and was known as Satilla's Rangers. The name honored the Satilla River which runs through southeastern Georgia. Neither of the Thomas brothers returned to Georgia.

The son of Mary Mixon and Banner Thomas, Jackson was married to Mary Ann Redding about 1851. They were the parents of one daughter and four sons: Mary E., Calvin, William B., Thomas S. and James R. Thomas.

I found his full name on his son, William Banner Thomas's Death Certificate. GA, Brantley County # 34135. Please change his name to Lewis Jackson Thomas.
