He served as a Army Cameraman during WWI, he then became the managing director of Universal Newsreel, shortly thereafter he spent two and a half years touring Europe by plane or automobile. Among his newsreels were the series Going Places With Lowell Thomas (1934–1937), Stranger than Fiction (1934–1941) and Going Places With Graham McNamee (1939–1940), his 1935 short film "Camera Thrills" earned him a Oscar Nomination and the Academy Film Archives preserved the film in 2012. He was also an associate producer on some of Roy Roger's films. He died suddenly of peritonitis after surgery at the age of 43
