Harry Challen [Chuck] Shoup was the only child and son of Harry E. and Vera Mae Shoup. He married Linda D.Whitmore in June of 1968. Challen attended Penn State was a pre med student at the University of Maryland pre entering the U.S. Navy and serving in Viet Nam for one year where he was a Navy corpsmen. He received two Purple Hearts and the Emeritus Mask award of the Navy and a recommendation for the Bronze Star.
Challen died at Doctors Hospital in DC at the age of 25 for treatment of a rare liver disease he contracted in Vietnam.
Challen graduated from Woodrow Wilson High School in the District of Columbia and was a past Master Counselor of Robert LaBruce DeMolay Chapter in DC, member of Bethesda Chevy Chase Rescue Squad, Friendship Fire Association and Flotilla 71 of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. At the time of his death he was completing pre-med studies at the University of Maryland.
