Harry Eisenstat
Birth: Oct. 10, 1915
Death: Mar. 21, 2003

Major League Baseball Player. Played Major League baseball as a pitcher for eight seasons (1935 to 1942) with the Brooklyn Dodgers, Detroit Tigers and Cleveland Indians. Born in Brooklyn, and originally signing with the hometown Dodgers, he was primarily a reliever over the course of his career. He had his best year in 1938 with a 9-6 record with a 3.73 ERA for the Tigers. In the final game of the season, he took a no-hitter into the eighth inning as the Tigers beat the Indians 4-1. His opponent that day, future Hall of Famer Bob Feller struck out 18, but lost because he allowed seven walks and seven hits. The Tigers traded Harry Eisenstat to the Indians the following season for future Hall of Fame outfielder Earl Averill on June 14th, 1939. He stayed with the Tribe until 1942. Rather than return to baseball in 1943, he felt it his patriotic duty to retain his defense plant job during World War II. He accrued career totals of 25 Wins-27 Losses, 165 Games Pitched, 14 Saves, 157 Strikeouts and a career 3.84 ERA. (bio by: Frank Russo)
