HOLDEN, Mo.-- Kenneth D. Hughes, 80, of Holden, died Tuesday night, Oct. 12, 2010, at home. His funeral will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 16, at the Sweeney-Phillips and Holdren Funeral Home in Warrensburg.
Kenneth was born Nov. 7, 1929, in Saginaw, Mich., the son of Clarence and Carrie (Berry) Hughes. He was married to Rose Piechowiak of Saginaw, Mich. He later married Annie McCudden of Hamilton, Bermuda, who preceded him in death March 18, 1990. On June 21, 1997, he married Delilah Miller of Holden, Mo.
Kenneth was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 4195, American Legion, and the Moose Lodge. Throughout his life, he was an avid fisherman and hunter. He also enjoyed traveling, gardening, history, baseball and spending time with family.
He earned three Bronze Stars as an Army veteran of the Korean War, serving with the 25th Infantry Division, the 2nd Infantry Division, the 23rd Regiment. Both units were awarded the Presidential Unit Citation. He never forgot the brothers he served beside, attending many Korean War reunions through the years and later contributing to troops during the Operation Iraqi Freedom.
After the Army, he re-enlisted with the Air Force, where he retired from active military service Feb. 1, 1973. He then went on to work in civil engineering for another 18 years.
Kenneth D. Hughes is survived by his wife; Delilah; two daughters; Deborah Parker and husband Richard, of Jupiter, Fla., and Carrie Ann Ballenger and husband Daniel, of Knob Noster, Mo.; one son; Kenneth D. Hughes II and wife Brenda, of Saginaw, Mich.; a sister; Joann McMall and husband William of Hemlock, Mich.; a sister in-law; Marion Hughes, of Saginaw, Mich.; six grandchildren: Jessica and Alison Parker of Jupiter, Fla.; Matthew and Chelsea Hughes of Saginaw, Mich.; and Skyler and Billy Michael of Knob Noster, Mo. Also surviving are numerous step-children, step-grandchildren, and step great-grandchildren, and nieces and nephews.
In addition to the wife, Annie, he was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Geraldine Kohlmeyer; and a brother, Richard Hughes.

Pallbearers will be Shane Hutchison, Chris Hutchison, Dexter Carter, William Eatmon, Gary Tull and Dennis Sokolowski. Honorary pallbearers will be Ralph and Marlene Goldsmith, Samantha and Devin Baldwin, William and Joann McMall, Marion Hughes, Daniel and Jake Ballenger and Kenneth's grandchildren.
Burial will be in the Knob Noster Cemetery will full military honors. The family will receive friends from 1 p.m. to service time Saturday at the funeral home.
