Jay E Hoch, 79, of Town of Niagara NY, died Thursday May 31-2001 at his residence. Mr Hoch was born November 19-1921 in Sprankle Mills PA, the son of Preston and Elva (Byerly) Hoch. He was married to the former S Margaret Carl who survives. A 1939 graduate of Punxsutawney High School, Mr Hoch attended the University of Buffalo and Niagara University. He moved to Niagara Falls in 1945 and had resided in Town of Niagara since 1952. Mr Hoch was an assistant manager of McCrory's Department Store in Punxsutawney for two years. During World War II, he served in the US Army Air Corps from 1942 until 1945 at the rank of Sargent. He participated in battles at Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe Air Offensive. He received the EAME Theater Service Medal with six stars, Good Conduct Medal and Distinguished Unit Badge. Mr Hoch started working at Titanium Alloy in the shipping department and was manager in the personel department. He retired in 1985 as traffic manager after 35 years of service with TAM Ceramics. Mr Hoch was past president of Town of Niagara Lions Club. He was a member of Niagara Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder for many years. He was instrumental in forming the Titanium Credit Union. A sportsman, he enjoyed hunting, fishing, and golfing. He was a member of Three-F Club, National Rifle Association and RAMS Group. In addition to his wife, surviving relatives include two daughters: Mrs Dennis (Patricia) Zimmer and Jean H Spence; five grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; his step-mother, Ruth Trithart of Punxsutawney; one brother, Clarence Hoch of Sprankle Mills; one sister, Delores Shaffer of Beaver; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by a brother, Wayne Hoch. Interment was at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Lewiston NY. The family has suggested that memorials may be made to Niagara Presbyterian Church, Military and Lockport Road, Niagara Falls NY 14305; or Niagara Hospice, 4675 Sunset Drive, Lockport NY 149094.
