Born in Roslindale, Massachusetts, he attended Boston University, for whom he also played hockey for from 1989 to 1994. Picked in the 10th Round (181st overall) in the 1989 National Hockey League entry draft by the New York Rangers, he played in the Minor Leagues system with the Providence Bruins from 1993-1994, 1995-1996, the Fredericton Canadiens from 1993-1994, and the South Carolina Stingrays from 1994-1996 before going into scouting. In 2001 as a hockey scout for the Los Angeles Kings, he was instrumental in the NHL Entry Draft by selecting players David Steckel and Mike Cammaleri. On September 11, 2001 he was on board United Airlines Flight 175 along with Garnet 'Ace' Bailey, Director of Pro-Scouting for the Los Angeles Kings, when it was flown into the South Tower of the World Trade Center by Al-Qaeda terrorist.
