Born June 20, 1889 in Moultrie Co. Illinois, Dale was the son of George N. & Lucy E. Woolen Butt. He was a lifelong resident of the Bethany Illinois area, living near the small community of Dunn for a period of about forty years, before moving to a place on West North Water St. in Bethany in 1967, where he spent the remainder of his life.

He married Lillie Mae Powell Aug. 10, 1910 and to this union were born ten children, 9 boys (one of which died in infancy) and 1 girl: Cecil, Raymond, Russell, John H., Chester Wayne, Victor D., Robert D., James W., Geneva M., & W. Edward. Dale & Lillie celebrated their 50th. wedding anniversary in 1960, with an open house at their rural home near Dunn.

Dale was a farmer all of his life, and Lillie was a wife, mother and homemaker, or otherwise, what we now know as a stay-at-home mom and homemaker.
