George M. Chávez, age 88, beloved brother and uncle, was called home to be with the Lord on Thursday, March 4, 1999.
George was a resident of Bernalillo, he was born on August 4, 1910 in Bernalillo, he was employed for 43 years at New Mexico Timber Co. and he was a longtime member of Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church for 25 years and a dear friend to all.
George was recently preceded in death by two sisters, Jesusita Wiggins and Margaret Torrez, also proceded in death by his parents, Juan Chávez and Adelaida Mondragón Chávez, four brothers, Guadalupe Chávez, José Saloman Chávez, Adolfo Chávez and José Conrado Chávez and two sisters, Beatriz Chávez and María Jesusita Chávez.
George is survived by four nephews, Conrad Torrez, Fred Torrez and his wife, Grace, Johnny Torrez and his wife, María García and Anthony Torrez and his wife, Bertha, one niece, Adelaida Valdéz and Greg Peña, four great-nephews, six great-nieces and five great-great-nephews and nieces.
George will be greatly missed by his loving family.
A Rosary will be recited tonight at 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Alameda Mortuary. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Sorrows Catholic Church on Saturday at 10:00 a.m. Interment will follow at Bernalillo Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Greg Peña, Ernest Lucero, Pete Santistevan, Joe Austin Jr., Dino Farfan and Benny Trujillo. Honorary Pallbearers will be Alfredo Valdéz, Flavio Trujillo, Emmanuel Lovato, Ignacio Farfan and Edward Estrada.
