US Congressman. A 1949 graduate of the University of Texas School of Law, he commenced the practice of law in El Paso the same year. He served in the United States Marine Corps during World War II, as a rifleman and Japanese interpreter, from 1942 to 1945, and was awarded a Purple Heart. He served as a United States Representative from Texas from 1965 to 1983.
