Verda Pauline Danker was born April 10, 1924 in Butte County to Roy and Elise Brooks. She passed away on February 15, 2010 at age 85.
She attended Durham High School and was married soon after to Harry Wallace Danker Sr. They lived and worked in Modoc County then moved to Washington State and Harry joined the Marine Corps when World War Il began. They lived in several different places around the country including Texas and Virginia. They moved back to Durham in September 1963.
Verda was always a very hard worker and held many jobs throughout her life, including being a seamstress and factory worker. She enjoyed growing a garden every summer and working outdoors on her property in Durham.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968 and her brothers, Ira Graves, Jack Graves, and Rusty Brooks. She is survived by her son, Harry Danker Jr.; two sisters, Emma RIchardson and Ruth Smith; her brother, Chet Graves and granddaughters, Tricia Patheal, Kristi Bekker, Erin Ocampo and Sami Dodd. She has eleven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren.
To those who knew her well, Verda will be remembered for her resilience, generosity and sense of humor.
A Visitation will be held on Friday February 19, 2010 from 1:00-5:00 p.m. at Brusie Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held on Monday, February 22, 2010 at 1:00 p.m. at the Cherokee Cemetery.
