Adams County Free Press | Corning, Iowa | Thursday, May 04, 1939 | Page 5 Mrs. Etta Van Wagenen passed away Friday, April 26, at the Soldier's Home in Marshalltown, where she was taken a month ago after having been ill a greater portion of the winter.
Mrs. Van Wagenen was 82 years old. She was a resident of Prescott some 60 years ago and went from here to Montana, where she made her home for many years. She is survived by one son and six daughters; one brother, Wm. Showers of Des Moines; two sisters,Mrs. Clara Bridgeman of Creston, and Mrs. Emma Chawgo of Kenmore, New York. Funeral services were held at Corning and burial was in the Corning Cemetery.
Her mother, Lucy Vale Whitney was a great-niece of Eli Whitney, the inventor of the cotton gin. Her father was a Quaker minister and a New York State College Professor.
