On Jan. 23, 1858, David was united in marriage to Emeline Goodnough, at Neosho, Dodge Co., Wisconsin. Emeline was born Jan. 22, 1837. She died on or about Jan. 4, 1896, at Montevidio, Chippewa Co., Wis. Her place of burial is unknown. Their two known children, both born in Wis., were: Emma, b. 8 Aug 1877, at Ontario, Vernon Co., Wis. & Mary, b. 30 Jan 1880, at Rice Lake, Wis.

Emeline was a sister of Lanson Dwight Goodnough, who also served in the 7th Independent Battery of Wisconsin Light Artillery, and is buried in the same cemetery. On Jan. 1, 1862, he was given a Disability Discharge at the same location, for reason not specified in his compiled service record at the National Archives.

After his discharge, David returned to his home and family at Neosho, Dodge Co., Wis. Sometime before 1877, he moved to Ontario, Vernon Co., Wis., where their daughter Emma Jones was born. His last move was to Barron Co., Wisconsin, where his daughter Mary was born in Rice Lake. He later moved to Cumberland in the same county where he lived out the rest of his days.
