Martha Lee (Kight) Blackburn, 81, of Keyser, died on Thursday, October 22, 2009, at Potomac Valley Hospital, Keyser.
Born on January 3, 1928 in Keyser, she was a daughter of the late Dr. Harry T. Kight and Myra E. (Wolf) Kight. She was also preceded in death by her brother Harry "Bud" Kight. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.
Mrs. Blackburn was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother and partner with her husband in the family businesses. She was a 1945 graduate of Keyser High School, where she belonged to the musical group Wind Jammers and at graduation was voted by her classmates to be "The Last Living Republican". She attended Potomac State College. and the Sacred Heart Nurse Cadet Program. Martha had worked the soda fountain at her father's business, Kight's Walgreen Drug Store in Keyser.
After retirement, Charlie and Martha enjoyed time at their second home on the Eastern Shore of Maryland and she was an active member of Lady Shrine (She Shells), Salisbury, MD.
Surviving are her husband of 63 years, Charles Blackburn; a son, David Blackburn of Keyser; three daughters, Charlene Liller and husband Terry of Keyser, Robin Bright and husband S. M. of Burlington, and Penny Riffle and husband Rex of Burlington. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Michael Blackburn, Melanie Blackburn, Jason Liller, Robin Schelling, Christian Liller, Mandy Liller, Simeon Bright, Charles Bright, Amanda Bright and Gabriel Newcomer and seven great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be conducted in the Burlington Union Church on Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Brenda Forren and the Reverend Gwen Wolford officiating.
Private interment will be in Queen's Point Cemetery, Keyser.
In lieu of flowers, the family has requested that donations be made in memory of Martha Lee Blackburn, to Shriner's Philadelphia Hospital for Children, Ali Ghan Shrine Club, P. O. Box 1416, Cumberland, MD. 21502.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Markwood Funeral Home, Keyser, WV.
