To reach Capt. Smith Cemetery, from Huntsville take Hwy 23 South for 12 miles to Witter then continue south on Hwy 23 for 1 mile and turn right on County Road 5250. This is a narrow road and crosses War Eagle River winding around and through hayfields. When you come to a flagstone house, stop and inform the owner you wish to go to the cemetery. The cemetery is about 3/4 mile from the house. To reach it you must go through the farm gate to the left of the flagstone house. The gate has a "No Trespassing" sign on it because of problems with hunters. Follow the road/trail up the hill and through the field to reach the cemetery which is located in a grove of trees with a fence around it. This road is sometimes very rough and rutted so probably best to have a four-wheel drive vehicle.

This cemetery is located on property originally owned by Captain George Russell Washington Smith and his brother, Simon Peter Smith. Many members of the Smith family are buried here, but Captain Smith is buried in Dickens Cemetery at Forsyth, Missouri.
