Television News Journalist. He was best known for his work with ABC News from 1969 until 1978. Raised in Arkansas, he dropped out of high school at age fifteen and launched his broadcasting career at a local radio station. He served with the US Army and was stationed in Frankfurt, Germany where he continued his radio career with the American Forces Network. Upon returning home, he joined New Orleans' WWL-TV and served as an anchorman and reporter; he received a National Gold Bell Award for a documentary on the life of Pope John XXIII. This led to his joining with CBS in St. Louis and later New York where he covered the early days of the American space program. In 1969 he moved to ABC, where he served as an international correspondent. He covered the war in Vietnam and became a casualty himself when the helicopter he was traveling in was shot down. He suffered a broken back which required surgery and a lengthy period of recuperation. In 1972, he returned to the US and earned a Peabody Award two years later for his series of stories on the coal mining industry of West Virginia. In 1978, Kincaid departed from ABC to join WVEC TV in Virginia where he served as an anchorman until his retirement in 1997. He died from a heart attack. (bio by: C.S.)
