Edith A. Adams, age 86, of Lecanto, FL, formerly of Naples, FL, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Wednesday, July 13, 2011, at Always There Assisted Living under the loving care of the staff and Hospice of Citrus County where she has resided for the past 8 years. Being the first resident, she was also known as the "queen of the house."
Edie was born on December 27, 1924, in New Castle, IN, to Leonard and Sally (Justice) Mayne. She served in the U.S. Navy getting a degree in nursing from Hunter College in NY, and worked at the U.S. Navy Hospital in Norfolk, VA. She retired from Naples Community Hospital where she worked for 20 years as an LPN on the midnight shift. She worked as a home health nurse in the daytime and still had time to care for her grandchildren and everyone around her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Kerman Adams; 3 sisters; 4 brothers; and one grandson. She will be sadly missed by her niece, Marie Kanash of Lecanto, FL; Denise, Leslie, Joy and the staff of Always There, they loved her and they treated her like family. She is survived by her 2 daughters, Vicki Adams of Naples, FL, and Sue Boone of Texas; 4 grandchildren, Heather, Buddy, Billy and Melvin; 2 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held at a later date at the Florida National Cemetery in Bushnell, FL, under the care of Strickland Funeral Home with Crematory Crystal River, FL.
