| Birth: | Mar. 26, 1899 Baltimore Baltimore City Maryland, USA | | Death: | Apr. 18, 1998 |  US Navy Rear Admiral. Bauernschmidt graduated from the United States Naval Academy in 1922. After graduation he was assigned to the Battleship New Mexico. He left the New Mexico in June of 1925 in order to attend Submarine School at New London, Connecticut. He completed Submarine School and was assigned to Submarine Division Nine out of Pearl Harbor and reported as the second officer. In the spring of 1927 Bauernschmidt was given command or the submarine R-2. In 1928 he was relieved of command of the R-2 as a result of developing color blindness. In 1935 he was transferred to the Supply Corp and in 1943 he was appointed Commander, Cruisers Destroyers Pacific. He was assigned to the staff of Admiral Nimitz and established the Naval Supply depot in Oran, Algeria. He was next appointed to the Normandy Invasion Planning Committee, being one of the most junior officers so named, and while in London was wounded in a bombing raid. Lastly he was the Commanding Officer Supply Depot on Guam, Mariana Island in 1945 then Commanding Officer of the Pearl Harbor Supply Depot from 1951 to 1954.
