Robert J. Hann, 86, of Somonauk, IL, died Saturday, April 5, 2003 at his residence. He was born March 7, 1917 in Adams Township, Illinois, the son of the late John and Grace (Gletty) Hann.
Robert was self-employed in building construction, including residential, farm and commercial projects in the Sandwich and Somonauk area until his retirement in 1981. He served in the U.S. Navy in World War II, serving in the Marshall Islands. He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He was a life long member of St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL and was active in community affairs. For many years, Robert was a member of Catholic Order of Foresters, a Republican Precinct Committeeman and a volunteer with the Somonauk Fire Department.
Mr. Hann is survived by his wife of 62 years, Jeanette (Dannewitz) Hann; four daughters, Janice Hann of Chicago, IL, Roberta Mickelson of Somonauk, IL, Pat Hann of Somonauk, IL, and Kay (Kevin) Flavin of DeKalb, IL; two sons, Donald (Linda) Hann and Joe (Carmen) Hann both of Somonauk, IL; nine grandchildren, Jodi (Tom) Wilson, Stephanie (Jason) Baumbach of Sandwich, IL, Karen Mickelson, Megan Mickelson, Lena Hann, Rachel Hann all of Somonauk, IL, Sean Flavin, Sara Flavin both of DeKalb, IL, and Sarah Good of Elgin, IL; three great grandchildren, Connor and Evan Wilson, and Dylan Baumbach all of Sandwich, IL; three sisters, Virginia Hann of Sandwich, IL, Magdalene Haas of Somonauk, IL and Marion (Larry) Griswold of Yorkville, IL; two brothers, Gerald (Evelyn) Hann of Athens, OH and Ronald Hann of Gurnee, IL; and also by several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Capt.David Hann, USAF; and a brother, Bill Hann.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, April 8, 2003 from 4 to 8 PM at the Burkhart Funeral Home, 606 E. Arnold St., Sandwich, IL with a Liturgical Wake Service at 7:30 PM.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10 AM on Wednesday, April 9, 2003 at St. John the Baptist Catholic Church in Somonauk, IL with Rev. Don DeSalvo celebrant. Burial will be at St. John's Catholic Cemetery in Somonauk, IL.
Memorials may be given to the Somonauk Fire Department, Somonauk Community Chest, the DeKalb County Hospice or Somonauk Unit District 432 Transportation Fund.
