Canadian radio and TV broadcaster. Born in Montreal in 1909, he made there its studies and very early in his life he became interested by journalism. He joined the newspaper “Le Canada” under the direction of Olivar Asselin who asked him one day to write a 15 minute long bulletin and go to diffuse it at station CFCF, the oldest radio station of Montreal. This experiment led him to CKAC where he officially became broadcaster in 1930. When World War II began, CFCF asked him to act as liaison with its war correspondents on assignment in Europe. He was at the heart of historical events like the two conferences of Québec (1943 and 1944) and the opening of the Alaska road. In the early 50s, he made his television debut on the most popular program in Québec : "La poule aux oeufs d'or". He also hosted the first quiz show televised in Quebec which remained number 1 in the ratings for 7 years. In 1967, year of the World Fair in Montréal, he was the co-host with Jacques Normand of “Les Couche-Tard”, a late-night talkshow with prestigious guests coming from all the world. His long career included interviews with such world figures as François Mauriac, Jules Romains, Antoine de St-Exupery, Jacques Brel, Winston Churchill, Franklin Delano Roosevelt and Charles de Gaulle. He was also a radio star announcer on Station CKVL, and for several years, was also the President of station CKLM. He was a performer who remained one of the most-respected members of the Montreal broadcasting community thoughout his remarkable career. His colleagues had nicknamed him “Le Prince des Annonceurs” (The Prince of Broadcasters). In 1990, he was inducted into the Canadian Assoiciation of Broadcasters Hall of Fame. Also, he was introduced in the Order of Canada and the National Order of Québec. He died in Montreal on September 17, 1997. (bio by: Guy Gagnon)
