Mildred Louise Nelson was born on the family farm one mile north of Gilbert Station on April 2, 1918 to Joseph and Clara Shadowen Abram. She departed this life on July 12, 2011 at the age of 93 years and 3 months. Louise was the 5th of eight children. She accepted Christ at a young age, attending Fairview Christian Church in the Scottsville area until it burned. She then transferred her membership to the Beloit First Christian church. She attended 8 years at Gilbert, a one-room country school. She graduated from Beloit High School in 1936. Louise was united in marriage to Keith W Nelson on September 1, 1941. To this union were born four daughters, Mary (Tom) Maxwell, Nancy (Francis) Gronewoller, Barbara (Mark) Hartness and Jane (Terry) Anderson. Louise loved being a wife and mother on their farm 5 miles northwest of Beloit. Her work ethic produced loads of garden foods, a tidy home, and taught her family an important life principle. She was employed for many years outside of the home retiring at the age of 77. Louise was a very social person who loved participating and volunteering in Sunday school, Bible study, Circle, Senior Center, Quest Club, VFW Post #6242 Auxiliary, card groups, Hospital gift shop, and FCE. She received a certificate honoring 70 years of membership in FCE in April 2011. She enjoyed nature, traveling, swimming, and delighted in each of her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and great-great grandchild. No one doubted she had prayed for them each day. To spend more time with family, she learned to love fishing. A mischievous smile filled her face when she often out-fished them. Louise was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and siblings: Orville, Ralph, Marie (Wessling), Harold, Leo, Martha (Schmitt) and Jack, and an infant grandson, Darrell (Gronewoller). She is survived by four daughters, Mary Maxwell and Nancy Gronewoller, both of Beloit, Barbara Hartness of Andover, and Jane J. Anderson of Georgetown, SC; 10 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; and 1 great-great grandchild. Funeral services will be at 10:00 AM Monday, July 18 at the Beloit First Christian Church followed by burial in Elmwood Cemetery. Visitation will be from 1-8:00 PM Sunday at the McDonald Funeral Home, where the family will greet friends from 6-7:30 PM. Memorials may be given to the Church or the Beloit Concert Association.
