Michael L. Nunnally passed away at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Memphis after a long illness. He was an artist, illustrator, and writer.

Michael L. Nunnally passed away Saturday, December 11, 2010 at Baptist Memorial Hospital - Memphis after a long illness. Mr. Nunnally was preceded in death by his parents, Guy and Martha Nunnally. Michael graduated from Central High School in 1967 and attended the Memphis Academy of Arts. In the seventies and eighties he was employed by Poplar Tunes and Hotline Distributors, but it was later in life when Michael was able to use his artistic talents to gain national attention. Michael's "At Bat" series of sketches for Beckett Baseball Magazine was a big favorite in the nineties. He later did many illustrations for True West and Old West magazines, as well as many Civil War publications. His book "The American Indian Wars" was published in 2007 to high acclaim. Michael became an authority on the history of the Custer Battlefield and was a member of the Custer Battlefield and Museum Association, Friends Of The Little Big Horn, and The Custer Battlefield Preservation Society. He fulfilled a childhood dream in 2009 by visiting Gettysburg and riding the Custer Battlefield on horseback with other experts. Michael will always be known for his quick wit and enormous sense of humor. You could drive across country and back with him and never run out of subjects to talk about. He experienced many things in his colorful life: from ushering at the Beatles concert in Memphis in 1966 to having dinner with Yankee greats Whitey Ford & Joe Pepitone in the 80's. He will be greatly missed by his wife Dawn Cross Nunnally; daughter Robin Nunnally of Seattle, WA; stepson Timothy O'Neill; sisters Joan Carby of KY and Deborah Nunnally of NJ and brother, Christopher Nunnally of NY. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Lung Association. Services will be held at Family Funeral Care at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, December 14, 4925 Summer Avenue, Memphis, TN Family Funeral Care 901-761-8000

Michael, Thanks for your contribution to Find A Grave. I was reading about some of the memorials you made about various people's role at The Battle of The Little Big Horn.
