Funeral services were held at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 25) at the Smith Funeral Home for Mrs. Hazel Clairbel Smith, 69, of 921 Spring St., widow of Sealy S. Smith, who died Monday morning at Grinnell General Hospital.
The Rev. Hugh A. Shiveley, pastor of the First Baptist Church, officiated at the services. Organist was Mrs. Willard Heffner.
Pallbearers were Brad Hutchin, Ed Patten, Jim Patten, Wayne Patten, David Thompson and Robert G. Thompson.
Burial was in the IOOF Cemetery in Brooklyn.
The daughter of James A. and Dora B. Sackett Patten, Mrs. Smith was born Feb. 11, 1902 in Brooklyn. She attended the rural schools near Brooklyn.
On June 5, 1942, she was married to Sealy S. Smith in Unionville, Mo. Mr. and Mrs. Smith made their home in Brooklyn until 1944 when they moved to Grinnell. Mr. Smith died Nov. 3, 1964.
Survivors include three step-sons and two step-daughters -- Lester Smith of Malcom, Everett Smith of Lebanon, Tenn., Wayne Smith of Kinross, Mrs. Art (Ruby) H?n?y of Newton and Mrs. Floyd (Vivian) Parker of Richfield, Minn.; one brother and one sister -- John Patten and Mrs. Elizabeth Conger, both of Grinnell; eight grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; ten nieces and three nephews.
Mrs. Smith was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Sealy; one brother, Ira L. Patten in 1956 and two nephews.
