US Navy Seaman. Peter Penner enlisted in the US Navy in 1803, in New York. He served on frigate in the Mediterranean in 1803 and 1804. In August 1804, he volunteered to join the crew of the "Intrepid" whose mission was to destroy the pirate floatilla in Tripoli harbor. On September 4, 1804, while carrying out this mission, the "Intrepid" exploded killing Penner and 12 other men aboard.
