Virginia attended St. Margaret of Scotland in South St. Louis, MO for grade school and The Academy of the Sacred Heart (City House) where she graduated with the highest honors. She graduated from Maryville College and obtained a Masters Degree in Classical Languages from St. Louis University. Prior to her marriage she was a Professor of languages at age 21 at St. Louis U. She married Don Augustine Livingston in 1939 at St. Margaret's Church. They had six sons, Don, Thomas, John, James, Patrick and George. She was a career homemaker but always was active and gave her time to many charities including Little Sisters of the Poor and Birthright. After her children were raised, she taught for 22 years at Villa Duchesne and Mary Institute. She was an extraordinary woman of good taste and charm, but remarkedly humble, with a bright Irish sense of humor to match her keen mind.
