CARBONDALE -- Earnest Edward Acklin, 75, died at 11:36 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 6, 2010, at his home in Carbondale.

He was born Aug. 13, 1935, in Anna, the son of Lawrence and Elsie Elizabeth Irvin Acklin. He married Glenda Yates on Oct. 19, 1969, in Las Vegas.

Earnest is survived by his wife, Glenda of Carbondale; one brother, Lawrence Gordon Acklin of Grand Rapids, Mich.; several nieces and nephews, Waverly, Debbie, Jeff, Chapperal, Donna, Karen, Wayne Anette, Tressa, and Chris; one stepuncle, Andrew Acklin; and other relatives and many friends.

He was preceded by his parents; two brothers, Earl and Carl Acklin; one sister, Elaine Bishop; and stepuncles, Stanley, Howard and Edward (Tiny) Acklin.

Earnest was a member of Shiloh Baptist Church for many years. He served proudly in the U.S. Army.

According to his wishes, Earnest services will be private. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Southern Illinois. Envelopes will be available at Rendleman and Hileman Funeral Home in Anna.
