Biography written by Thad Parsons:
"Locasta Oedema was the tenth child of eleven children of Alfred Allen Bishop and Delilah Morgan. She was born 16 February 1848 in Ripley, Missouri. When she was three months old, the family headed for Texas, travelling in an ox-cart. The journey was very slow and it was necessary to stop and plant in order to replenish their stock of see for the new homestead in Fayette County, Texas
The family moved to Kerr County in about 1855. In July, 1870 she married Joseph Wesley Parsons and they remained in Kerr County until 1898. From 1871 through 1883 she bore three sons and four daughters; Orrea in 1871, Florence in 1873, Thaddeus in 1875; William in 1876, Missouri in 1879; Martha in 1881 and George in 1883.
She and Mr. Parsons, a Civil War Veteran and early Texas Ranger, had a prominent part in the early development of the western part of Texas. During this period, marauding Indians on several occasions stole their horses and cattle. Locasta, an earnest Christian of the early Cumberland Presbyterian Church, made her home a rallying place for the delegates to Presbytery, many of whom travelled hundreds of miles on horseback or stagecoach.
When Joseph Wesley Parsons died June 22, 1907, Locasta, called "Dee", resided with her daughter, Missouri, known as "Zoe", was married to Charles Crotty. In Houston, Locasta was an active member of the Central Presbyterian Church.
