Death: Dec. 5, 1893

son of Warren Browne and Ruth Anne Kinney
husband of Artless Jane [Ladd] Browne [1831-1906]

Born in Towanda, Pennsylvania. Moved to Peru, LaSalle county, Illinois with his family in 1836.In his early teens, L.P. Browne moved to St. Louis, Missouri, where he
found employment as a clerk in the store of P.H. Vandeventer & Company. In 1852 Browne Browne moved to Westport [now Kansas City Missouri] and was employed by the
Walker, Northrup & Chick company, a general merchandise company. The company was run by Joel Walker, a Wyandotte
Indian and brother-in-law to L.P.Browne's wife, H.H. Northrup and W.H. Chick. In 1857 Mr. Chick an Mr. Walker opened a business under the name of W.H. Chick & Co. When
Joel Walker died [ca.1858-59] L.P. Browne bought his interest in the company and became Chick-Browne Company. As
the Chick-Browne company moved west, Mr. Chick retired and Francisco Manzanares became a partner and the company became the Browne-Manzanares company. The company made its
headquarters in Las Vegas, New Mexico when the Santa Fe railroad arrived there in July 1879

Died of Bronchitis. In October, 1893, L.P.Browne caught a
cold and afterward suffered an attack of "la grippe". Whild he did not consider himself seriously ill, he remained indoors for about six weeks. On the Saturday night before his death, W.H.Chick [former business of L.P.Brown] came for a visit. Mr. Browne answered the bell and admitted Mr. Chick. L.P. Browne told Mr. Chick that he
was not well but not actually sick, and regretted that he
had to remain about his home doing nothing. After Mr. Chick left the Browne residence, Mr. Browne suffered a fit of coughing which almost cause immediate suffocation. From this paroxysm Mr. Browne did not recover.
