"On Monday night, October 25th, the death angel entered the home of Mr. John Chester and he was called to his reward. He was 80 years old last August. Was an old Confederate soldier;had been almost blind for some time but had been in his usual health and passed away suddenly. He was twice married, his first wife was Miss Bettie Kincaid and his last one was a Miss Clontz. He was a faithful member of the church for many years; a quiet, unassuming and good man. The funeral was conducted Tuesday afternoon at Mt. Pleasant by his pastor, Rev. L.L. Smith, and he was laid to rest in the cemetery. He is survived by a devoted wife and other relatives."
