He grew to manhood on a farm in Troy township and on December 4, 1883 was united in marriage to Mary Alice Summers, living on a farm in Troy eight years, then moved to Eagle Grove, spending the remainder of his life there.
He was a kind and loving husband and father, always thoughtful of the comforts of his family and home. He was honest and upright in his business dealings and was highly respected by all who knew him.
He believed in a hereafter and was converted in the Baptist church, being baptized in the Boone river by Rev. R. Shaftoe. His Christian faith was shown by his many deeds of kindness and consideration of others.
He was looking forward to his 60th wedding anniversary on December 4th.
Five daughters preceded him in death: Ruby and Pearl Wilcox, who died in infancy; Mrs. Grace Peach, Mrs. Ethel Bliss and Mrs. Vada Meade.
Those left to mourn his death are his wife, two sons, Ray Wilcox of Ann Arbor, Mich.; Howard Wilcox of Hillsboro, Ore.; 10 grandchildren and 3 great grandchildren. To one granddaughter, Charlotte Bliss, who has lived with them since infancy, he seems nearer than a grandfather. He is also survived by 2 brothers, Isaiah and Bob Wilcox of Norcross, Minn.; one sister, Mrs. Ida Wilson, Vancouver, British Columbia, many other relatives, and a host of friends.
