Ernest Griffin was born December 29, 1908, in Belzoni, MS; to Willie Dunn Griffin and Albert Griffin. He was the sixth of seven children born to this union.
He confessed a hope in Christ at an early age. He joined Shiloh Baptist Church in 1953. There·he served as president of the Usher; Board, church treasurer, and a member of the Trustee Board. He was a member of the Men's Club and the December Club.
He became a member of Ashler Lodge #139, Prince Hall affiliation, in 1959, where he served as Worshipful Master and Treasurer.
He united in matrimony in 1964 to Corine Griffin, whom he loved and cherished all the days of her life. They enjoyed the bliss of marriage for thirty-three years.
He retired from General Motors after twenty-one years of service.
During his life, he blessed and took care of many people. His sphere of family far extended beyond those he shared a bloodline. He was always a source of encouragement and joy. He never complained about anything. He was the epitome of independence. He personified the words "love" and "hard work." His home was a place of welcome and he will be missed by many.
He leaves to mourn his departure: one son, Holly Griffin (Juanita); one daughter, Vera Norfleet; five grandchildren, Sherry B. Bronfman, Terry Brewer, Cecil Brewer, Elquardo Erby (Katrina), and Lee Wilkins; four sisters-in-law, Easter King, Augusta Davis, Grace Griffin, and Grace Smith; two brothers-in-law, Luke Smith, and Matthew Smith; seven great-grandchildren; one special niece, Rev. Brenda Griffin, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
He was preceded in death by his mother, father, one sister, four brothers, his beloved wife, Corine, daughter, Joyce, and grandson, Alfred.
