| Birth: | Oct. 25, 1929 Charlottesville Charlottesville City Virginia, USA | | Death: | Nov. 12, 2008 |  United States Navy Rear Admiral. He attended the public schools in Charlottesville, Virginia, and in 1948 entered the United State Naval Academy at Annapolis, Maryland, graduating in 1952. His first assignment was aboard an aircraft carrier, but afterwards most of his sea service was on board submarines, including the "USS Guard-fish". He would later command a submarine squadron then a submarine group. In the early 1970s, during the final years of the Vietnam War, he served as Director of Logistics and Security for the Commander in Chief, Pacific. Retiring in 1981 after a 29 year career, he would go to work with private industry where he was assigned to manage a group of engineers and scientist working to develop containers for long term storage of spent nuclear fuel near Las Vegas, Nevada.
