Adam Fenton May
Birth: May 29, 1861
Petersville
Bartholomew County
Indiana, USA
Death: Oct. 31, 1928
Shelbyville
Shelby County
Indiana, USA

Politician, farmer, and stock raiser. After receiving his primary education in the county schools Adam attended the State Normal at Terre Haute [present-day Indiana State University]. He married his first wife Mary Glick on June 26, 1883, married his second Lillie Sidener on October 28, 1885, and in 1886 settled in Washington Township, Shelby County, Indiana. As a Democrat he was elected in 1899 and 1901 to the Indiana General Assembly, was president of the Shelby County Joint Stock-Agricultural Association, chancellor of Byron Lodge #108, Knights of Pythias at Hope, Indiana, and a member of the Farmers' Masonic Lodge #147 at Norristown. In his later years he continued to work as a salesman for a stock feed company in Columbus. He married his third wife Stella McCoy in 1928.

A biographical notice of him appeared in Chadwick's History of Shelby County, Indiana (Indianapolis, 1909), pages 806-808, sub 'Hon. Adam F. May', in which is stated:
'Mr. May is a Democrat of the old Jeffersonian school, and had long been influential in local and state politics, having represented Shelby county in the General Assembly from 1899 to 1903, inclusive, and earned an honorable record as an able and conscientious legislator, as well as the distinction of being the only person in Shelby county who served two successive terms.'
'In connection with agriculture, he has achieved a wide reputation in the matter of fine live stock, giving especial attention to high grade Poland China hogs, in the breeding and raising of which he has not only been remarkable successful, but is considered an authority in his and other counties....His familiarity with swine is so thorough that at all shows and exhibits of hogs at county and state fairs he is invariably chosen judge...'

His name can be repeatedly found in the following breeding registers, Central Poland-China Record, National Poland-China-Record, Ohio China-Poland Record, and the Standard Poland-China Record.
