Ashland Gazette (Ashland, Neb.) 3 Apr 1946, Wed P. 4 -- Final Rites Here For J. W. Johnson -- James Wesley Johnson, son of William Arthur and Rachel Loder Johnson, was born at Coshocton, OH on Dec. 22, 1867 and departed this life March 26, 1946 being 78 years, 3 months and 4 days of age. His death occurred at the home of his brother and sister in Ashland. He had come from Blair to visit several weeks ago. In early childhood he moved with his parents from Ohio to Hancock County , ILL.. In the year 1882 they moved again to Cass County, Neb. , where he grew to young manhood. On March 15, 1891 he was married to Etta Hoenshelf at Greenwood. They were the parents of one son, born in 1893. They lived for some years in the Greenwood vicinity, and for a time resided on a farm just south of Ashland. About 26 years ago he removed with his family to Blair, which was his home for the remainder of his life, except for the few weeks spent in Ashland prior to the time of his death. Mr. Johnson's wife preceded him in death the summer of 1929, and only three months later their son was killed in a railroad accident. The surviving relatives are the brother Lewis F. Johnson and the sister, Minnie A. Johnson, both of Ashland. There was an older brother J. T. Johnson , whose location is not known. James W. Johnson and his family were members of the Christian church at Greenwood. Funeral services were held at 2:00 o'clock Friday afternoon, March 29, at the Marcy Chapel in Ashland. Rev. H. H. Utterback, pastor of the local Christian church, was in charge. Music was in charge of Mrs. Warren Robinson and James Parks, with accompaniment played by Mrs. H. F. Anderson. Pallbearers were Art Jarman, William Laughlin, John Peterson, Grant Mefford, William Booher and George Isaac. Interment was made in the Greenwood Cemetery.
