Liisa, also known as Selina or Elisabeth, was the daughter of Jacob Haapala. On July 29, 1883, she became the wife of Herman Salonen, who changed his surname to Hermanson upon arriving in America in 1891 to work as a miner. She followed him with their three children--daughters Emilia and Alma and son Jacob--in 1899. Herman passed away only two years later following a terrible accident in the mine, leaving Liisa to care for their children. In the later part of her life, she resided with her son Jacob and his family.
Liisa died at only sixty years of age and was buried in Greenland. In addition to her husband, Liisa was preceded in death by her daughter Alma Raisanen. Surviving were her daughter Emilia and husband Charles Lofback; son Jacob Salonen Hermanson and wife Alena; and her grandchildren Einard, Arthur, and Evalti Lofback, Edward Raisanen, and Walfred and Raymond Hermanson
