Herman Vogel, 73 years old, who had lived near San Antonio about 70 years, died at 3 o'clock Tuesday afternoon at his home on the Vogel ranch near Bulverde, Tex., about 26 miles north of San Antonio.
About two weeks ago, when Mr. Vogel became ill and believed that he would not recover, he gave members of his family specific directions as to arrangements for his funeral. The funeral services, which are under the direction of the Riebe Undertaking Company, will be conducted from the ranch home at 2 o'clock Thursday afternoon. The body of Mr. Vogel will be interred in the family burial ground on the Vogel ranch.
When he was three years old, Mr. Vogel accompanied his parents here from Germany, where he was born. He had lived in or near San Antonio ever since. When a young man he became a farmer, his father having purchased large tracts of land for what would now be considered a very small sum. Much of this land was owned by Mr. Vogel at the time of his death.
Mr. Vogel lived in the old Vogel home, which was built over half a century ago. This building is one of the oldest German dwelling-houses near here.
He is survived by his widow; four sons, Herman Vogel of Mission Valley, Albert of Houston, Edgar of Corpus Christi and Arthur Vogel of Bulverde; six daughters, Mrs. Clara Moehrig of Orange Grove, Bertha Neugebauer of this city, Elfrida Vogel of Bulverde and Elvira and Anna Vogel of this city.
